Water Skis

Water skiing can be traced back to 1841 in Sweden when a patent was granted for it. However, it is unclear whether or not the patent was developed at that time.

According to the American Water Ski Association the actual sport of water skiing was started in 1922 with use of two boards and a plain clothesline for the tow rope.

The first water skis were made from wood and they were strapped to skier’s feet with rubber bindings. Today, of course modern skis are made from composite materials and much more sophisticated bindings are used for keeping the skis secured to skier’s feet.

What started out as a fun pastime has blossomed into a full fledge sport with competitions and events held all over the world. Whether you’re a pro or just a weekend skier, the sport of water skiing is downright fun and exhilarating to participate in. The feeling of finally being able to get up on the skis for the first time without falling is not soon forgotten.

As with any thing, water skiing takes a lot of  practice to become good at and once you have been bitten with water skiing bug, it’s a sport you will participate in probably for the rest of your life.
